Highlights of the Seasons


As the seasons change in Mutinondo Wilderness, special aspects characterise each season. Your visit will be flavoured by the season you choose.

DRY, MODERATE AND COLD SEASON - May, June, July and August

Daytime temperature range: 10 to 20 degrees C
Nighttime temperature range: 0 to 15 degrees C

Highlights include:
-  crystal clear blue skies (with a few grey,cold and windy days)
-  wonderful walking and camping weather
-  great star gazing
-  bright pink proteas, multicolour mistletoes and bright red aloe flowers

DRY, HOT SEASON - September, October and November

Daytime temperature range: 20 to 30 degrees C
Nighttime temperature range: 15 to 20 degrees C

Highlights include:
-  arrival of migrating birds
-  spectacular flush of new leaf colours of the Miombo Woodland
-  swimming in the cool rivers
-  hiking and camping
-  bushfires
-  green grass brought on by bushfires in the wetlands attracting shy and rarely seen roan and sable antelope
-  the smell of the first rains


WET SEASON - December, January, February, March and April

Daytime temperature range: 15 to 25 degrees C
Nighttime temperature range: 15 to 20 degrees C

Highlights include:
-  wild mushrooms
-  wild flowers galore
-  interesting insects
-  migrant birds
-  thunderstorms
-  spectacular sunsets
