NORTH SWAKA / CHANGWENA FALLS / FORT ELWES
A beautiful waterfall, challenging rocks and caves to find and explore. 40km north-east of Mkushi. The track leading to the falls starts in Mkushi Boma, through the market and past the Health Centre is in a bad state and easy to get lost on. Be prepared with 4x4, directions and maps.
The turning off the Great North Road is about 270km from Kapiri Mposhi and 20km past (Mansa turnoff) the left turn to Samfya and Mansa. Turn right at Kanona, cross the Tazara Railway almost immediately and proceed for 13km to the picnic/camping site above the falls.
15km north of Mpika is a hilly outcrop with tracks going to the East into rocky outcrops, raffia palm strewn streams and a pretty little waterfall. Deforestation is threatening this area so see it whilst it lasts!
