With access to 10,655 hectares, guests are invited to explore. Maps and route suggestions are available, and a guide can be arranged if needed, but guests are free to swim, bike and hike at their own leisure.
The only structured activity currently offered is the 5-day hike into the Luangwa Valley , this must be booked in advance before you arrive.
Well maintained ±70km of trails. Over 15 Inselbergs to climb, or amble along the rivers with a dip in the pools, walk through pristine woodlands or on dambo edges.

Mutinondo offers a unique wildlife experience, with regular sightings of Klipspringer, Roan, Sable and Warthog, alongside a fascinating array of tracks and spoor found throughout the wilderness. Year-round monitoring helps track this recovery, with the long-term goal of restoring Mutinondo as a stronghold for species that once roamed the area.
An Important Bird Area with 374 recorded species, Mutinondo is renowned as the best site in the world for the Chestnut-headed Flufftail and Bar-winged Weaver. A combination of inselbergs, dambos and expansive miombo attracts species hard to find outside Zambia.
From spectacular scenery enhanced by brilliant sunrises and sunsets, to diverse wildflowers, bustling birds and magnificent mushrooms, Mutinondo offers extraordinary material for both the amateur and professional photographer.
Take short day-rides or longer cycles into the heart of the wilderness on 60km of tracks and trails, or venture further afield for several days into the Luangwa escarpment. Please bring your own bike, bikes are not currently available for guest hire.
A rare treat in Africa, crystal-clear rivers safe to swim in. Swim in pools below the waterfalls, or canoe upstream and float back down the river. No known hippos or crocodiles in the Musamfushi or Mutinondo rivers, though one can never be 100% sure; bilharzia not known in the area. Two canoes and three paddleboards are kept at Choso falls for guest use.
Enjoy a memorable meal beneath the trees, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Mutinondo wilderness. Our bush dinners offer a chance to slow down, share good food and experience the landscape as day gives way to night.
A trip to the national monument, 700m of cascading waterfalls
Approximately 100km from any large urban area, Mutinondo has very low light pollution, making for incredible views of the night sky. The Nsaka at campsite 9 has a dedicated stargazing deck for optimal viewing.
A fantastic place to explore together as a family, swim wild in the rivers, cycle the lodge roads and walking tracks, and gather around the fire to teach little ones about the stars.
Hunt for the largest edible mushroom in the world, Termitomyces titanicus ("Chingulungulu"). During the rains, mushrooming at Mutinondo is fantastically rewarding, with yellow truffles, Amanita and dozens of other species identifiable with help from local Bisa staff knowledge.
