welcome to mutinondo

Where the
Wilderness
Still Breathes

Mutinondo is a privately owned hidden gem on the Muchinga Plateau, 30 km west of the Luangwa Valley in northern Zambia. Set within more than 10,000 hectares of miombo woodland, granite inselbergs and pristine rivers, it offers a rare opportunity to experience a vast, untouched wilderness at your own pace.

In a world where the art of slowing down has almost been forgotten, Mutinondo is one of the few places left where you can walk in the bush unguided, sit in true silence, and look out at views that reach the horizon without evidence of human activity.

A Wilderness of Twelve Seasons

Most safari destinations sell two seasons, wet and dry. Mutinondo has twelve.

The miombo woodland changes month by month: leaves flush blood-red in September, orchids carpet the plateau in November, mushrooms erupt after the first storms, rivers swell in April. Every visit offers something special.

The wilderness anchor of Northern Zambia.

Perched on Zambia's Muchinga Escarpment, Mutinondo is your gateway to some of Southern Africa's most extraordinary wilderness destinations along Zambia's Northern Circuit.

Most guests spend three to five nights with us before continuing on to South Luangwa, Bangweulu, or Kasanka, and we're happy to help you map the perfect route.

Beyond the well-known highlights, Northern Zambia is rich with hidden gems: dramatic waterfalls, untouched landscapes, and truly off-the-map experiences waiting to be discovered.

What a surprise. Having lived in Zambia for a while, and returned on visits, we still had no idea that such a place existed. It takes your breath away. It is a joy to be in a place that has been so carefully looked after, is well organised, and yet is totally wild.
